Program Highlights and Services

Clinical Care

  • Acute concussion care — Individualized patient assessment and guidance for return to school/work and sports.

Community Outreach

Through the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Sports Medicine Center for Young Athletes and UCSF PlaySafe Program, we work with schools across the Bay Area to treat and raise awareness about sports concussion. Athletes at participating schools receive:

  • Comprehensive evaluation by a sports medicine physician trained in concussion management
  • Detailed step-by-step, return-to-learn and return-to-play progression plans
  • Consultation and communication with the school’s certified athletic trainer
  • Concussion educational outreach to the community and medical facilities.

Innovation and Research

Members of our team are engaged in numerous research projects focused on understanding brain injury and recovery. Their work has been published in multiple medical books and journals. For more information on the brain injury research and treatment innovations, visit brainandspinalinjury.org.
